Republic Day

India's vivacious cultural heritage, inspiring accomplishments and the military might left every Indian heart coated with patriotism, gaiety and enthusiasm as the Nation recently celebrated 61st Republic Day.

The ceremony in New Delhi commenced with Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Minister of Defence, Mr. Antony and chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force paying homage to our martyrs by laying wreaths at the eternal flame Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate. The Amar Jawan Jyoti commemorates the determined courage of our Armed Forces personnel who have sacrificed their lives for our motherland.

Republic Day

After the President of India unfurled the Tricolour, a customary 21-gun salute was blown. Soon after the President of India conferred the country's highest peace time gallantry award, the Ashok Chakra and the Param Veer Chakra. With this, the parade began with soldiers marching in synchrony down the Rajpath boulevard against the backdrop of presidential palace Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The marching contingents of Army included the horse-mounted men of the 61st Cavalry, Brigade of Guards, soldiers from various regiments' viz. Madras, Jat, Sikh Bihar, Gorkha and many more showcasing the motto unity in diversity.

Tableaux from various Indian States and Central Ministries and Departments presented the varied historical, architectural and cultural heritage of India, including the Jantar-Mantar in Jaipur to spring water tapping in Meghalaya, the stalagmite caves in Chhattisgarh and the Bhagalpur silk from Bihar known for its sheen. National Bravery Awards winners rode next past the spectators. School children from various school presented dances and other programs.

Jaanbaz, the motorcycle display by the Border Security Force saw riders on motorcycles performing various breathtaking stunts, showcasing a synchronised and synergetic display of mind, body and machine skilfulness.
